Who I Write Like

I Write Like Dan BrownI know many of you will be thrilled if you analyzed your writing through an online program and were compared to authors like Dan Brown and James Joyce. At least your ego would be soaring high with pride.  My intention is not to dismiss the value in each of their writing, but rather highlight the absurdity in these comparisons. For starts, I analyzed my prose writing at I Write Like

First of all, Dan Brown's writing is so deep.  And SOOOOO  anti-Catholic.  He is the author of Angels and Demons, Inferno and the Da Vinci Code, to name a few. The Catholic Church has found his works very controversial and demeaning. Is that how I write?  Is my writing so deep, controversial and anti-Catholic? Definitely not.  I do believe my writing is positive, easy-going,  optimistic and inspirational. And I do not slander the Church.  In fact, I TRY my best to uphold and promote the values that are important to the Church through my writing.

I also analyzed one of my poems at this site. Apparently my poetic style is like James Joyce, an Irish novelist and poet. Not familiar with James' work although Ulysses comes to mind, I delved into research to find out more. The very first link Wikipedia (I don't usually refer to Wikipedia, but for the sake of what I found ...) quotes Joyce as saying, 'My mind rejects the whole present social order and Christianity—home, the recognised virtues, classes of life, and religious doctrines. Six years ago I left the Catholic church, hating it most fervently. I found it impossible for me to remain in it on account of the impulses of my nature. I made secret war upon it when I was a student and declined to accept the positions it offered me. By doing this I made myself a beggar but I retained my pride. Now I make open war upon it by what I write and say and do.'

But that said, what is it these programs look into? Letters and words and the ways these words are arranged? No matter what I tried, 99% of the references to my writing that I used for this analysis turns out to be like Dan Brown's.  Should I be happy?  Should I be skeptical?  Should I wonder if this is true or not?  BTW - Joyce's poems are really beautiful too. Very elegant and graceful.

Do you want to know what my overall reaction to this site is? James Joyce wrote (and Dan Brown writes) just like I do. They possess my style of writing.

Conclusion: Regardless of the context, these best seller and renowned authors have adopted my style of writing and write like me. ;)

Ironic but true!
