My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me?

There are days in our lives, even for long stretches of time, when we feel an emptiness in our lives.  There are times when we go through the day and just cry, "Where are You, Lord?  Where are You?  Don't You see me hurting?  Don't You see that I am lost? Where are You Lord?"

Little do we realize that we already have the answers given to us, even before we can cry out loud.  Do we really want to listen to this answer is another matter.  But... maybe it is time to take a quick look at what Scripture tells us.

6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen:

to loose the chains of injustice

   and untie the cords of the yoke,

to set the oppressed free

   and break every yoke?

7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry

   and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—

when you see the naked, to clothe them,

   and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood?

8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn,

   and your healing will quickly appear;

then your righteousness[a] will go before you,

   and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;

   you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

Isaiah58: 6-9

Maybe it is time to reflect upon this scripture and figure out the path our life is heading along.  Do we need to turn back for something ?  Do we follow all that the Lord desires of us?  Are we in tune with the Lord for the Lord to grant us our heart’s desires?  Perhaps, just perhaps, we do not love our neighbor, although we profess to love the Lord?

Let this be a time of reflection so that we may be able to make straight the path that is crooked in our lives, and be in communion with the Lord. For when we are in communion with the Lord, there is NOTHING that the Lord will NOT do.  For then you will cry to the Lord and He will answer: You will cry for help and He will say, “Here am I”.

Praise God for these phases in our lives when we go through the desert, and wonder if we will ever seen the green grass that is on the other side of our dreams.  Praise God for the times when we realize why we are in the desert.  It is at these times that the Lord comforts us most.  It is at these times, when we turn around and be in communion with Him that He assures us all will be well.  We will never walk alone.
